Star Wars and a Lesson Learned

Thursday night my husband and I snuck out the house to catch the 11:40p showing of Star Wars! My mother stays at our house during the week to watch Omari so she was fine with staying with the kids while we ran off to be teenagers again. As soon as we put the boys to bed, we rolled out (Roll Out by Ludacris plays here). It was exciting! Sometimes things are so surreal to me that it seems like my life is a movie and I will instantly que music in my head for the relatable scene. I felt a rush come over me while we tiptoed through the house and out the door. It felt like we were being rebellious. We were rebelling against the parental norms for the night. Once we got into the car, we just smiled at each other as I silently melted. His smile is a constant reminder of one of the many reasons why he is my husband. He is so fine (I Love Your Smile by Shauniece plays here)! He said, "You ready baby?" I nodded and we headed for the theater. He thanked me for coming with him and I could see that he was genuinely pleased.

I do not know a thing about Star Wars because I was never interested in anything Star Wars. However, I am interested in my husband and he happens to love Star Wars so I felt it necessary to support him. It is so important to do things with your spouse even if it's not your thing. You still need to impress each other and not seek your own interests in a marriage. This is something that both of us work on constantly. He gave me a brief synopsis of the story so I could be caught up enough to understand the movie (and he didn't want me asking him so many questions while he's watching the movie).

Once we got to the theater, tickets were printed, 2 small popcorns, 1 medium cherry coke and a pack of Twizzlers were bought and we made our way down to theater 4 (Just the Two of Us soundtrack plays here). We sat down in our reserved seats and I gobbled down my popcorn before the movie even started (uncontrollable habit of mine 😋😋). I reached for our Cherry coke and must have gripped it incorrectly (it was pretty heavy) because it spilled all over me! I thought to myself that if this was a first date I would be completely embarrassed. Lol!! My husband and I quietly fussed about how I should clean the coke off of me. I told him I needed more napkins and he came back with another cherry coke, napkins and a hot dog (for himself). Stress eating I guess? Lol! Once I was all cleaned up we relaxed again. I reached for the cherry coke once more and he stared me down and told me to take my time. We both laughed and he shook his head. I am always dropping something.

We had a wonderful evening. The movie was incredible and most importantly my husband and I were able to have fun without the kids. We usually go out on a date once a month and I enjoy that but this night was special because it was impromptu and so darn exhilarating. We got back home close to 3 in the morning and saw the light in the kids room was turned on. We knew the boys were up. We were caught. We took the walk of shame to their room and found my mom and the boys. My mom said that they woke up 20 min before we came. They were crying for us and didn't want to go back to sleep. Desi was worried. He said, "mommy, I woke up and I looked for you and daddy but you weren't here. I said mommy and you didn't answer so I cried and went downstairs to grandma and asked her where you were. Omari wouldn't stop crying so I gave him a hug and told him everything will be okay. I took a deep breath and said to myself ok Desmond just take a deep breath and listen for their car and the keys in the door. I wasn't happy that you and daddy didn't tell me you were leaving. I thought something happened to you." We understood his concern and realized that we didn't consider how the kids would feel if they woke up to see we weren't home. We apologized to both of them and let them know that if we do something like this again, we would let them know. We felt bad. We definitely should have prepared them but we were caught up in the excitement. Nevertheless,  the boys were happy to see us safe at home and the went right to sleep...in our bed. Fun times. Lesson learned.

Who Are You My Beloved?

After watching a series of Iyanla Fix My Life episodes I felt compelled to write a post about who I am as a woman. Have I truly explored that question? Who is Aisha? I have all these parts that make up the whole but what is the whole? Let's break it down by the parts first. A part of me is: 1. A wife 2. A mom 3. A daughter 4. A sister These positions in life add to who I am. Now WHO AM I at my core? Here is what I am discovering: I am a woman who has a great deal of love and respect for Jehovah God. This is the biggest part of who I am. How I move in life, whether it be spiritually,  physically,  emotionally or mentally, is wrapped up in my relationship with Jehovah. I am a woman who cares about the well being of others and is moved to help where necessary. I do not like to be overbearing and I am very sensitive to others feelings. I am observant and intuitive. At times I can be proactive and at other times I can be reactive and I am okay with that. I am a woman that lo...

Let's Play?

I think I have lost my ability to play. Many times I wonder where my imagination has gone. I admire those moms that can think of myriads of play activities. I can't think of a single one. So when I say to Desi, "Wanna play with mommy?" When he says "yes" (sometimes he will say "no mommy") I am thinking, "okay what should we do?" I get slight anxiety. LOL! We'll run around and play with cars, but I'm not sure if that is enough. I guess I can google activities to do with a 1 1/2 year old, but shouldn't this come naturally? I don't know why this is an issue to be honest. I feel pretty silly even writing about it but I am hoping I am not the only one in the motherhood feeling this way.  Case in point, Desi and I were playing at the park the other day. He goes to sit down in the mulch and he says to me, "sit mommy, sit." I sit with him and start wondering what should we do. So I pick up two sticks and we have a stick f...

It's Bedtime!

I love the bedtime routine we have set out for Desi. He gets his bath and a good rub down. We say a prayer with daddy and we read 2 books. The first book is always "My Book of Bible Stories" and the second book is "The Snuggliest Snuggle in the World." I bought the second book for Desi when I was 3 months pregnant and I just knew and felt that it was going to be his favorite book. Mommy's intuition did not steer her wrong! He loves the book! He really gets into the voices I make for each character, we point out colors and animals. He will turn the page and when the story is over I say, "The end. Okay close the book Desi." He will, then, close the book. I tell him night night and we go over to the light switch. I tell him to turn the light off and he turns the light off. A moon is projected on the wall so we say goodnight to the moon and I turn on the heartbeat sound on the projector. He gives mommy a hug and I put him in his crib. He holds my hand unti...
