My baby boy is sick again. These darn colds!!!! We were taking care of his cold all throughout the weekend. When we got Desi together for daycare this morning, we thought all was well. Out the door and down the road we went. Desi kept saying "home mommy, home." That was the first sign that he wasn't feeling well. Then here comes the vomit!! My husband and I just took a deep breath and turned the car around to head for the house. To stay home or not to stay home? That is the question my husband and I asked of each other. Is he feeling better now that he vomited? Should he go to daycare with this cough and the runny nose? He doesn't have a fever...
My husband definitely makes more money than I do and he had an important meeting to attend. So, I stayed home with our sick child. His grandma called me to see how he was doing. She advised that I should take him to daycare since he is not running a fever. I wasn't sure though. I just didn't feel right taking him when he was clearly sick. When I got him in the house he said "lay down mommy" that was enough for me to keep him home not to mention that he visibly looked like he wasn't well.
Anyway, I made the call to my job to let them know that I was not coming in. Another leave without pay...I've been second guessing myself the whole day. Maybe I should have taken him to daycare. Maybe I shouldn't have called the daycare provider to tell her what happened. Should I take him to the doctor? In the midst of my thoughts, I did take care of my baby boy. I made a doctor's appointment for 2:30pm today. I canceled it. He was still sound asleep and I felt that it was better that he get some rest. Was that the right thing to do? Maybe I should have woke him up so we could make that appointment. When he finally woke up, I gave him some soup and juice. He perked up a little. "Hungee mommy," he said an hour after he ate his soup. Great! He has an appetite. I gave him some fruit. Now he is sitting down on his little box (He won't let me throw this box away) watching Caillou. He looks like he is getting better. He is a little more active, but still has a little cough. Hopefully, that will subside throughout the week.
Lesson of the day: Don't second guess what comes natural. Mommy intuition is powerful. Just feel your baby out and go from there. Yes, I missed another day of work and no I will not get paid for it, but I will pat myself on the back because I am fulfilling the most important job that I have and that is motherhood.

Aww this is a beautiful post. I am actually going through the same thing with my soon-to-be two year old daughter. Idk where these little colds have been coming from! Mommy knows best...I don't know what you do for work, but surely the daily operations continue with or without us...but the babies, they NEED us. Great call :)
ReplyDeleteAww, our babies are close in age! Time flies doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteYes, Mommy definitely knows best. Daily operations definitely continue. May baby needs that extra TLC when he is sick and who else better to give it to him, but mommy?
Thanks for checking me out gyrl!
